Major U.S. Cities with Women of Color Mayors

On November 2, 2021, Boston, MA and Durham, NC elected Michelle Wu and Elaine O'Neal to their respective mayors' offices. According to research from Rutgers University's Center for American Women and Politics, Wu and O'Neal are the 31st and 32nd women of color to hold the office of mayor in one of the United States' 100 largest cities. 19 of those women have taken office since 2015.
